The weight is already decided
The rule puts a floor under the weight: the length less three ounces. This is the floor at each common length.
- 31 inches
- 28 ounces or more
- 32 inches
- 29 ounces or more
- 33 inches
- 30 ounces or more
- 34 inches
- 31 ounces or more
A listed weight can sit above the floor. The drop caps how light a bat may be and says nothing more exact.
That is what a hitter feels moving up from a youth bat: at 31 inches a -5 weighs 26 ounces and the BBCOR floor is 28. The -3 article explains where the rule comes from.
Choosing a length
High school and college hitters mostly use bats between 31 and 34 inches; a 14-year-old on a first BBCOR bat is more often in the 31 to 33 range. Height and weight charts were drawn for lighter youth bats and say little at this drop. A swing test says more:
- Jammed on inside fastballs, or letting the barrel drop to catch up: too long or too heavy for now. Drop an inch.
- Barrel on time, with a comfortable reach to the outside corner: the length is right.
- Out in front of everything: try an inch longer, in the cage, never first in a game.
A smaller hitter does better with a 30 or 31 inch bat on time than a 33 inch bat late. Mass placement counts as well. Bats of equal length and weight can still feel different if the weight sits near the hands or out toward the end, and a hitter new to BBCOR usually controls a balanced bat more easily. The BBCOR Bat Guide covers balanced and end-loaded swing weights.
Ages 13, 14 and 15: which bat applies
Age does not decide the bat; the league does. These are the published bat rules, as of September 2026, for the leagues that cover 13 to 15-year-olds. Rules change between seasons, so confirm the current one with the league before buying.
- High school (NFHS), any age
- BBCOR .50 for any bat not made of one piece of wood
- USSSA 13U
- Maximum drop of -8 with the USSSA 1.15 BPF mark
- USSSA 14U
- From January 1, 2026, -3 (BBCOR) is the national standard; a state may adopt a -5 exception
- Little League Intermediate and Junior
- USA Baseball marking or BBCOR marking; 2 5/8 inch barrel maximum
- Little League Senior
- All bats must be BBCOR
- PONY
- 2 5/8 inch barrels legal in every division; a -3 bat in that barrel must be BBCOR certified
- Babe Ruth 13-15
- USABat marking or BBCOR .50; 2 5/8 inch barrel maximum
- 13. At 13 BBCOR is often a choice, not a requirement. USSSA 13U stays at a -8 maximum with its own mark, and Little League Intermediate and Junior and Babe Ruth 13-15 take BBCOR or a USABat mark.
- 14. At 14 the line moves. High school, USSSA 14U and Little League Senior call for BBCOR, while Little League Intermediate and Junior, PONY and Babe Ruth still take a youth mark. What size BBCOR bat should a 14-year-old use? takes each league in turn.
- 15. At 15, high school and Little League Senior require BBCOR, and Babe Ruth 13-15 takes either mark. A player on a high school roster swings BBCOR at any age.
RESURRECTION: the bat this page leads to
RESURRECTION comes in one listed size, 32 inches and 29 ounces, a -3. It is a one-piece alloy bat marked BBCOR .50, with a 2 5/8 inch barrel and no break-in period, made in a run of 500 that will not be repeated.
It is the right bat for a hitter who controls 32 inches and plays where BBCOR is allowed. For a hitter who needs 31 inches or less it is the wrong bat, and we say so. It is not made to suit everyone, and it is not meant to.

Questions
- What size BBCOR bat for a 14-year-old?
- Most hitters on a first -3 bat use 31 to 33 inches, and 32 is the usual middle. What decides it is control: the barrel reaching the same spot on time late in a round, not a height chart.
- What size BBCOR bat for a 13-year-old?
- The same swing test applies. First check the league: USSSA 13U does not require BBCOR, and several 13-and-up leagues accept a youth mark.
- What size BBCOR bat for a 15-year-old?
- The swing test is the same. Many high school hitters use 31 to 34 inches, and the weight follows from the length.
- How much does a 32 inch BBCOR bat weigh?
- 29 ounces or more. RESURRECTION is listed at 32 inches and 29 ounces.
- Can a BBCOR bat be -5?
- No. High school and college rules stop at -3. A -5 in that same 2 5/8 inch barrel is a youth bat, which some leagues for 13 and 14-year-olds accept.
